Cabin re-do On the 20
 

One of the thing that the prospective buyers that have looked at my 20 Seafari didnt like was that the cabin was stripped and unfinished, When I got her there was old ugly carpet on the cabin roof and no box cover behind the helm,I stripped the old headliner out and I built a box for the helm a while back, just hadnt got around tho covering it with anything. Well today i decided to do something about it. I went to Home depo to get some carpet and spray glue, When I got to the register the girl there couldnt figger out how many square yards was in a 10 x 10 peice of carpet was so she just charged me six bucks!! It was supposed to be .52 a square foot! I got a deal!!! I tried to correct her but she insisted it was OK! I spent most of the morning cutting and glueing the carpet in. Then on to the box ,I had some foam backed vinyl left ove from a old job so I used to cover the box and bulk head walls, I think it turned out nice! Now I got to find some v-birth cushions and Ill be all set. what yall think?

Looks good Gary! That box you built is pretty close to the original. Now all you need are some bunk cushions! Jeanne Moesly once told me they redid the carpet in the Seafari they owned . . . said she laid on her back and used her bare feet to force it to stick to the cabin top!

I need to do the same thing to mine. Some of the original carpet started coming down, so I just cut off the loose stuff and it looks pretty ratty! Resident carpetbagger GFS said I need something with a woven backing to allow it to fit the curves. Looks like your carpet conformed pretty well to the contours of the cabin top. Do you have any info on that carpet, like who made it, material, type of backing, etc.? The "imitation mouse fur" original carpet is pretty good insulation and prevents condensation from forming on the inside during cool nights with our 100% humidity, so I'd like to find something similar.

My boat is all original except for the bunk cushions. Have attached some pics of what it's cabin and the fg IP cover looks like. I added a piano hinge to bottom of IP cover so I can open it quickly, but it's easily removable for better access to the wiring. I mounted a couple of glove boxes in port bulkhead, which ended up creating some handy shelves inside the cabin. I've also installed some nylon mesh across opening in anchor locker to keep the 300' of line and 20' of chain and other gear from falling out onto the bunks! Hammocks along the sides under the deck are handy for keeping life jackets & other gear off the bunks. Denny

I used the Home depo grey "mouse fur " cheap carpet, no backing but streches easy and I used 3M spray adheasive, , spray the carpet back and the cabin roof and let it set a few seconds and it go on fairly easy and sticks good.
Dang, I just noticed I missed a spot, Ill have to patch that spot in !

Sorry Phil, I knew that, even checked your e-mail address to be sure, and I still got it wrong! Thanks for the carpet tip! I'll see what the local store has, but won't do that job till next winter . . . too hot (and damp!) right now! Hope you folks get some of this rain from Isaac! Denny

Nice! Did you have much left over from the 10x10section? How much more do you think you would have needed if you didn't have the extra vinyl?

Im sorry, It was 10x12', and I think I had enough left over to do the bulkhead walls if I haqd wanted too
