paint stripper and gelcoat
Am I correct in assuming that paint stripper won't touch gelcoat? I ask because I had a can and decided to see if it would take off the bottom paint which it did. It also took off a thin layer of white. I'm assuming this boat has been painted and I'm just taking off a layer of white paint underneath the bottom paint. Think I'm correct? Any reason not to use stripper? It works quite well on the spot I tried.

I do bottom painting as a job and i've used Petit Bioblast with no problemsto gelcoat. What is it you are using?

I'm not sure what brand, but its a can of spray I had laying around from auto zone. It softened all the layers of paint and I was able to scrape it off pretty easily. I just hadn't expected it to take up a white layer. The whole boat is getting sanded and painted but if I have a layer of paint on here its all got to come off. Looks like this boats been painted. Just making sure strippers would stop at the gelcoat.

Careful with the automotive strippers as they may take off gelcoat.

good to know. thanks. Maybe I'll try some of that stuff you mentioned. I just had this and wanted to see if it would work. Honestly didnt really expect it to touch the bottom paint but it did. Thanks again.
