Poly versus aluminum gas tanks
 

Has anyone heard if poly gas tanks would/could cause more condensation than aluminum? I know it's a goofy question, however I've got a friend who's boat I'm tired of fighting water in the gas and he has a poly tank. Drained it once and now four months later it's got water in the gas again. The bad part is I can't find any leaks. Thanks guys!

I doubt condensation is the problem. Typically aluminum or stainless would exhibit more water exchange from condensation. My guess is a leak at the fill cap...

find the source of the water- then your problem is solved...

i had a poly tank that was allowing water into the tank - the tank was cracked on the top...the owner of the boat,he tried a few repirs - replace fue sending unit,and swap out a hose - i had supected it was a tank - after it was removed,it was confirmed...


again,find the source of the water - it's not condensation...

Yeah....that's what I told him. He might want to get out the "big" check book for that. It's a two piece boat and there's no way to get the tank out or work on it without taking the top cap off. One 8" inspection plate over the fuel guage sending unit and the fuel pick up and that's it. Yowza!

i've never pulled a cap to replace a fuel system...

the deck's cut,tank's removed,and deck's glassed back down...

With those just cut them in half and slam a 6 gallon portable tank in!!

Hey I'm with you guys on this!!!! It's a Kenner (Tracker Boats) and I'm over working on this. It's not like my SeaCraft or Hewes where I'm more attached and in love!! I'm so over it, I asked him if it was fully insured!!! KaBoom!

First thing he should check is which way his fuel vent is facing on the outside of the hull. I have a friend who had one facing the wrong way and got water while under way in rough water. Simple fix if that's it!

It does not have a vent on the outside of the hull, I know what your thinking.....no way ol Don has gone back to the old days of smoking weed on a regular basis, with GFS! It's got the Perko combination fill/tank vent which looks to be in perfect shape.
