Don - Question for You

Hey Don ...... Are all of your motor brackets designed the same way? In other words, if I wanted a 30" shaft motor instead of a 25", would you build a "special" bracket for the longer motor?

Or are all of your brackets the same regardless of shaft length?

If they are the same, do you see any performace "negatives" with installing a 30" shaft on a standard (universal) bracket that you make?

I can see several "positives" with installing a 30" shaft motor but want to see your point of view on this matter.

"The Idiot Who Re-Built the Burnt-Up 35 Duffy"

That was a good one to watch.

Thanks. Might have been a good one to watch but was a difficult one to sell. That was a really nice boat.

And it continues to suprise me the number of people who were "watching" that build. Again..... THANKS!

You can mount the bracket 5" higher to accommdate a 30" shaft motor no problem but will be sacrificing the floatation. I can build you anything custom you want so I could mate a custom larger bucket to regain the floatation if you wanted. Would just cost a bit more. :D Got a link to the rebuild?

IF your building a 23, get Don's double and put a 30in motor on it. Then mount it aprox 1/2in lower than I mounted mine. Notch the swimplatform on both sides for scupper doors and you wont have ANY water on deck. I love my bracket with the 4stroke Honda.

what about a hermco bracket that goes out to the second strakes?

Hi Don,

With running a 4S Merc, at close to 660 pounds, currently on an armstrong, 25" shaft. At some point I am going to need to pull it, and repaint(sand/etch/prime/paint), as not sure can make this happen on the boat without pulling the engine. My thought is not much more work to get a glass bracket and gain the extra float.

Anyhow, to sweeten the project, I would really desire to have a bracket that has 2 steps to mirror the 2 steps on the 23 SC, which would really seem to have max float? i would be extending to a 30" shaft at the time, for the larger bracket and getting the engine an extra 5" up.

What with the weight of 4S, might make sense for others not just me to think about a bracket with basically 2 steps matching the 23 hull steps?

Anyhow I run volvo ql tabs on the outside strake, so think there would be no issue there.

I know I wold have to fill the armstrong bolt holes in the transom.
