suggestions on fuel tank for 20'
 

i have a 72 20' seacraft with 05' 150 evinrude. thinking about 80 gallons. overkill? Is it possible to have too much?? Average day going off shore is 40-60+ miles round trip

I would calculate how much you burn and use that as a guide. I just pulled an 83 gallon tank from my 20 MA and will be halving that most likely. For my uses and the efficiency of my motor, 40 gallons is way more than enough. The most I will probably venture offshore is 20-25 miles. Even running up the coast to Tampa, I should still be good. I used to believe you can't have enough fuel, hence the 83 gallon tank, but every person and boat has different needs. Hope that helps.

I'm guessing that's a Ficht motor? If so, figure maybe 2.5-3 mpg to be safe for range calculation purposes. Better too much gas than not enough. Maybe go with 2 tanks if it sits a lot between trips so you don't have to store a large amount of gas for a long time. Be sure to use a good Racor water separating filter with the plastic bowl that you can drain to check for water after every trip.

I have a 60 gal tank in my '74 20cc w/ Suzuki DF140. I feel this is more than enough, in fact, 50 gals would be fine. I have completely filled mine once, we did over 50nm and came back with the gauge showing 3/4 tank. Most of my offshore trips average around 70nm and burn about 20 gals. I've done over 100nm without starting with a full tank.

Your fuel burn might be a little higher than mine, but I don't think you need 80 gals.

Is your motor an Etec or a ficht?

I think it has to be a Ficht. The first 150 E-Tec didn't come out until 2006 and even then it was listed as a 2007 model.
