Florida Guys Fish I.D.
2 Attachment(s)
Ok guys, I have 2 really bad cell phone pics of a couple of the little fish I caught last week off a dock just throwing a small jig. I have to get a Florida fish i.d. book or something as I am only familiar with some of the well knowns like snook, redfish, etc. Can someone see thru these very bad pics for i.d.'s for these two little guys? Thanks

dark one is Mangrove snapper and needs to be at least 12 inches to keep. the second silver one i want to say Grunt but picture is pretty bad for me to be sure, if its mouth was bright orange then it was a grunt.

Unless the law has changed I think mangrove snapper needs to be 10 inches to keep.

Not a Florida guy, but the second one is not a grunt. Looks like a member of the drums/croakers fams, if no canine teeth or chin barbel, I'd steer you toward a silver perch. If it has a barbel on chin I'd say Atlantic croaker.
Heres a reference to some of your croakers: http://www.theoutdoorlodge.com/fishi.../croakers.html Florida DFW puts out a publication usually available for free at Walmart or wherever licenses are sold |
Second one looks like a Whiting

The Mangrove if legal are very tasty to eat.

Yes Sir Terry, you are so correct!!! Notice how fish that has snapper hooked to it's name is good eating....like red, yellow tail, mutton, mangrove, etc. :)
|
That second one is dinner for me with a little size, and a stripers dinner if small.
