20ft 85 seacraft w/200hp prop question
 

Hey Guys,

I have been fixing up my boat for months now and enjoy more then anything. I was using it today and spun my prop. I have never done this before.

The engine is a 200HP 2001 Yamaha Saltwater series ox66. Unfortunately I have no idea what was on it... I never thought I would lose it. The old owner put it on. I called and asked but they dont remember.

Everyone I talked to thought a 19 degree pitch... Do you agree? I never had to select a prop so I know nothing about it. What pitch and prop should I get?:confused:

Please let me know your thoughts. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

If it was a Merc, I'd say a 17" or 19" pitch. I don't know what's right for a Yami, but someone will chime in.

But first, check to see if your prop has a removable hub. If so, you can buy one and replace it yourself. If not, call a prop shop and ask what they would charge to re-hub it.

mine has a 200 mercury and i run a 19 pitch mirage prop.

I have a 200 merc also and run a 19 Stilletto and honest couldn't be happier with the performance. The boat seems to float over the chop and incredible trim responce, I had to raise mine quite high but it loved it higher - Cav plate about 2 to 2 1/2" above the hull bottom - the last hole increase made a 2mph difference in cruise. Can't imagine a better prop for a 20 with a 200 other than a 17 - my max RPM is 5400/5600 but had to raise it get there but it worked. Heavily loaded alot a 17 may be better as I run light most of the time.

Its very similar to a Mirage+ in design, the dia on a Mirage is 15 1/4" I think and mine its 14 1/4 both are hard to swing for the same pitch, very aggresive.

I just looked at Hugo's [post as I have the same motor except mine a MA and no bracket - numbers are very close - mine are better at cruise but he needs to move his higher and that will help there, it did mine

Stiletto by Precision is a great prop. Hard to judge between the Mirage, Stiletto, and PT SWS series props.
Slightly different is the older Yamaha SWS props that are semi-cleavers, but work very well.

Denny's advice concerning 4 blades is worth listening to. More stern-lift, better handling at all speeds, more economical cruise, better hole-shot. Cost is usually 7-10% of your top end speed. Well worth it for anyone not planning on racing.

Plan on a pitch 1"-2" LESS than what you're running on a 3-blade, i.e.; from a 19"P 3-blade to a 17"P 4-blade.

I'm not famililar with 4 blades but they have a purpose no doubt but can't add anything on them. The Mirage and Stilletto are close in design, dia is a bit different but that has minimal effect compared to pitch. I will say as with 4 blades they are hard to swing, very aggressive, like to run quite high in the water - be careful about pitch, they will knock 2-300 RPM of current WOT kinda like a 4 blade. The guy from New Port Richey said he tried a Mirage on his 23 and it didn't work well at all but thats all I know as he wanted to try mine.

A note to the previous owner who knows nothing about how to use 5200 type sealants when you drill gigantic holes......you're an idiot. :(
