Yet another Pilothouse / Doghouse
 

I had two hours this weekend to kill on the seacraft and started in on the pilothouse. Here is what I have so far:

Have to get the roof cutout this weekend and put some other appointments on it. I had a pilothouse on my 22' North American years back and have a few ideas for it but i have to ask for you who have pilothouses, Anything you would change? Anything you'd do different?

Im planning removable panels for the sides and back to make it 3 season. Going to put hollow reinforcement on rear edges to run wires/ act as a grab location. Might make the front window an opening type.

Other ideas? Thanks!

When I did mine, I did not have the front window open. When I was finished, I wish I had opted for that option. Other than that, a dog house is a dog house. Good luck, looks good.

Chance: Yes. That opening window is the only thing to have on one of those hot "steemah" days right?

And a doghouse is a doghouse, but is it possible to have a nice doghouse? I mean if you gotta be in the doghouse...

Id like to try and make this one really nice compared to my last one. Last one was rough around the edges. Too commercial.

Yeah, you can pretty em up, I just don't know what else you can do to them to Gucci them up. Mine was pretty commercial too. But that's the look I was going for to match the rest of the boat. Full enclosure curtains would be nice for the back. Built in tackle storage? Other guys have run heat off the inboard for winter use but I don't know if yours is an ib. Other guys are more Gucci and have better ideas probably. I just wanted a simple working dog house. I'll be following this post, as you have peeked my interests with a Gucci doghouse.

Only idea I can suggest is that when you get her done you come on by and crack a motivational whip over my head...

Wonder if it would make sense to expand the top to almost t top size for more sun and rain protection plus put some rod holders and outriggers up there if wanted

Two hours... That is impressive. I have a ton of hours into mine, I'm scared to even count. I almost wish I went for a more simplistic design like yours, but I had to get fancy. I figured I had the time. Now I am almost out of time. Thankfully I finally got it faired to my satisfaction and the second coat of primer. I built mine off the top of the console, I didn't put whole sides on like yours. That will save you some headaches when trying to fair. I also decided to put a camber in the roof, and round all the edges... That probably added 20 hours to the project because of extra prep, and difficulty of fairing, and not because of how long it took to actually radius them. Here is an in progress pic of mine.

Yeah, it was two hours but I have a distinct advantage time-wise (I'm a carpenter and have all the resources...) so two hours to mock up sides and front- console base I got from another CSC member. Had to cut the height down a little bit but otherwise a good foundation. Very excited to finish this baby up but I am going to paint the hull this week.

Junior, that house looks awesome. I think you got the scale and appointments just right with the radius roof and all. I am planning a radius roof as well just need to get it together. Keep that opening front window advice in mind. On my other boat I always wished I could get some air on those hot days.
