windsheild gasket

I have 1976 Sceptre in which the windshield is leaking. I contacted American Marine as some of you suggested to purchase new seals. They told me the company had been sold and they could not tell me which gasket my boat took.Does anybody know the part number of the gasket i should purchase for my boat; I,m reluctant to pull out a piece of my windshield gasket to match up without a replacement in hand as it is so brittle.
Thanks for your help

window seal

Hi Brian, I think the part # TP240 on american marine web site is the right seal i replaced mine a few years ago .I also used a little soapy water to help the seal along in the channel good luck Tom.

Thanks Tom
I'm assuming I remove the glass ,clean the channel in the frame
fit the new gasket and put it on the glass
then set it in the frame and work the gasket into the channel?

Almost. You run a bead of sealant around the frame, set the glass, and then work the gasket into the channel. The gasket doesn't seal the window, it just holds it in place. I used silicone sealant on mine. No leaks so far.
