GPS Antenna

Do GPS antennas ever go bad? My GPS function on my Humminbird has stopped working. Checked the connections - all seems find. Any suggestions?

Yep They do! I had one go bad on my new(ish) Raymarine unit. I sent it back after calling them, and they shipped me a new one, no charge.

I had a Humminbird Matrix 47 3D fish finder that went bad in less than 5 years. It was stored indoors. You may find it's the unit, not the antenna. My suggestion would be to go with Garmin for your GPS. They're more expensive, but you get what you pay for. If Garmin is too pricey, Lowrance makes some economical units that work well, just not as well as a Garmin.

Agree with others, they do for sure. You can also check the "satelite" screen to see if you are picking up anything. If no satellites, its prob the antenna. Hbird can trouble shoot over the phone.

The matrix is older technology so you may have some trouble replacing the antenna. Newer antennas on most manufacturers are much more reliable. Many now are internal which would save you from installing another one.
