Twin 115 on 1974 Tsunami???help needed
 

Well I am looking to re-power with my limited funds....
my 1990 225 Looper has to have the steering tiller arm replaced and I do not have the time to deal with it...it will cost me $1500 to have it fixed by my mechanic so he suggested a possible re-power instead of dumping money into the motor...also motor obviously has been in saltwater its whole life so he said bolts will break!!!

I was looking at a nice pair of 2001 115 carb johnsons..or do I fix motor?
Any input appreciated etc....

Got me thinking about the 27 Seamaster with tripple 15's..:p
Now I may go all out and put 6 across the back :eek::eek::eek:
How cool would that be, hearing all 6 of those mighty 2 bangers
all in sync skimming effortlessly across the ocean!
Fuel burn would probably be 15 miles to the gallon with
a top speed of lets say 21 MPH, I know what you are thinking
NO WAY! It's gotta be at least 25 MPH!! :D:D

Now I have to get with Hermco to see if the bracket can handle
that many ponnies!! :)

All kidding aside, you could get away 2 15's on that 23!!

The answer is why not go with the twin 115's
Depending on if your wallet can stand it!
It would sure look nice with the twins..

I was also going to convert the Tsunami into a canoe and use my weed eater for an engine...:D
I will look more into the twin 15's..oops 115's I mean!

Replacing the tiller arm requires a LOT of wrench turning with an "acetylene wrench" on many seized bolts, so don't blame you for considering a repower. There's a good reason that BRP made that part out of SS on the E-TEC's!

Those BRP 115's are probably bullet proof motors, but if you consider the cost of adding dual controls, steering cables, wiring harnesses, instrumentation, batteries, spare props, etc. plus factor in the cost of 2X more maintenance, extra transom weight, and 2X more stuff to go wrong, it might actually be cheaper to look for a late model "plug & play" big single. Plus if it won't plane on one motor, you'd be just as well off from an offshore safety/reliability standpoint with a kicker and a big single! I'd try to stay with a BRP vintage carb'd motor though (2001 or later Johnson), unless you can find a deal on a 2005 or later 3.3L E-TEC! ARG in Riviera Beach often has some good used motors, and their service manager Lenny is a good guy (an ex-coastie!) Denny

I saw some motors on the ARG website..going to give them a call and see what they can do for me...looks like they have quite the inventory!

Fred- Stay with a single! Twins sound good, but not necessary!! Performance and cost are better with 1 big motor. Get a kicker! I am storing my 4.5 hp motor under my bench seat when I'm out.

I think ARG is selling a lot of E-TEC's, although they also sell Honda and Yamaha . . . saw something on the E-TEC owners website recently which said that, although Yamaha is No. 1 on new boat sales and Merc is No. 2, the E-TEC is No. 1 in repower sales, so they're evidently replacing a lot of 4-strokes! ARG takes in a lot of motors that way.

If you decide to go with the twins, I have some dual OMC tachs, trim indicator guages and the engine connector rod that came off a 76 SC 23 center console setup. The 23 had dual 1996 115's Evinrudes. Unfortunately, I just sold the dual top mount controls, harnesses, cables and ignitions switches.

Plagarism!!! I single handedly invented the 90% underpowered non-planing offshore deep vee!!!! But if you are serious about this Seanoe then make sure use dual counte-rotating weed wackers so ensure proper tracking.
