Etec 250 pre 2008

I am looking at a motor with 800 hrs that has a newer magnum lower unit. Anyone with a 250 have any feedback? This will be for my 23 Sceptre. I have spoken to Bushwacker today on his 150 and need to hear from someone with a 250/225/200 HO. I may need a Evinrude cert tech to check it out. Thanks in advance.

What are you going to do with your 225?

Fred-If I do the deal. I will be selling. I will know more by next week. Lets discuss more!

When did the LU blow? At speed? What is the deal with the OP? Sometimes a blown LU can cause serious collateral damage.

I recently rigged an 05' Etec 200 HO on my boat and can tell you it's very strong at reported 219 hp at the prop.

The 250 HO is reportedly around 268 actual hp at the prop, so should be a real good fit for your boat.

Ok sounds good..good luck with the ETEC...I was looking for newer power but had sticker shock:eek:and figured the money should go into the college fund over time..oh wait... my wife suggested that..
Keep me posted and call me with particulars when you are ready

I just got rid of my 2006 225 etec with 2000hrs and i did was a fuel pump at 1500hrs. I just traded another guy for his 2006 250 with 196hrs on it. Running 17pitch Viper prop and tacking out at 5600rpm's 38knots.

43.7 mph....... good speed. Did you try a Rebel prop ? A bit more bite, don't know if better top speed. Maybe not.

I have a 250 Etec on my Tsunami with a Hermco bracket. The boat also has a hard top/enclosure which adds weight and windage. Aside from being the best starting and smoothest motor I've ever run, it's strong - pushes the boat 45-50 mph depending upon load. The prop is a 19" pitch Viper. No maintnence of any kind needed at 2 years. In my subjective opinion, it is louder than a 4 stroke at planing speeds.

Might be true if comparing to the big V-6 4-strokes, and certainly the combustion frequency would be 2X higher. However all the test reports I've seen of the smaller 2.7L 150 hp V-6 vs. the 150 4 cyl. 4-strokes on 20' boats, sound level measurements showed that the E-TEC was actually quieter than the 4-strokes at about 30 mph! It's such a strong motor that it could maintain that speed at significantly lower revs. It's nice to be able to easily converse with your mates at 25+ mph! At idle, it IS a bit louder and throatier than the 4-strokes, but it's very smooth and sounds good to my ears!
