F'n Squirrels !
 

They built a nest in my 23' SeaCraft. I got rid of it before they had babies but not before they chewed my speaker wires up http://forums.floridasportsman.com/i...ilies/nono.gif

Here's their track:
They jumped from the fish cleaning board on the dock to the boat's starboard gunwale on the lift. From there they climbed down to the forward casting deck, ran across and then up and along the gaff handle mounted to the port side inner liner. They then entered the gap from the underside of the top cap into the chase under the gunwale that the fuel line & fuel vent hoses run into. (also my stereo speaker wires from under the console). From the bottom of the chase they ran aft along the inside of the outer chine and into the bilge area along the scupper drains. They proceeded to build the nest tucked between the Baitwell pump & the Seacock next to the transom. They used cabbage palm fron hair from the local tree. ​

Now, I had to flush out the chase and the bilge areas as they dropped a shit load of the palm hair along the way. Being at an angle on the lift skids, all that crap flowed aft with the water flush. The bilge pumps had that crap in the float switches as well as it got thru the debris screens & into the impellers. What a mess.

Now I have to fix and re-wire the speaker cables so I can listen to Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb" http://forums.floridasportsman.com/i...nchillpill.gif

Nuts to 'em, I say.

I put a bird feeder out in the yard near my boat just to bait them into the sights of my air rifle...Heh, heh, heh.

This summer's count stands at 23. ;-)

Now if I could keep the wasps out so easily.

A bad day (for the squirrel) at the bird feeder!! I had them in my attic. Chewed up a bunch of wires, including the ones to my my HVAC unit. I had to have it rewired, cost $300. I hate them bastards now. If they were to mess with my SeaCraft, well that IS ALL OUT WAR!!

STOP it....stop it!!!!!! That is way, way beyond funny!!!! Man I've seen them little bastards in a "bit of a pickle", but never hanging by their gonads!!! :) :) Damn I'm still laughing!!

I also have a squirrel problem every year, just before winter. They usually get in to the cabin dry storage to starboard, through the hole in the bulkhead that the wires run through. Visually, the wires that I can see are ok but I'm hoping they haven't chewed up what I can't see. The nests are usually the size of a basketball!

Last year I put the cat in the boat for a few hours to flush them out, However, I think once you remove their nest, and they realize they have to rebuild their winter home, they do some more careful thinking on where they will do it. Anytime I have removed a nest, and checked a few days/weeks later, they didn't rebuild. Hopefully my theory is correct in your case, Capt. Chuck.

Moth balls work great. It is said that dryer sheets like "Bounce" work great for the pop up camper crowd. But Home Depot sells the nasty old fashioned moth balls. They work great.

Most moth balls now don't have the same chemicals that the good ones had back in the day. Bounce dryer sheets work great. My family has used them in our boat, campers and our dry storage areas.
