Removal of I/O questions
alright I got the motor out of the boat and the outdrive junked I am left with the piece that sandwiches the transom. the swivel piece is still on the outside. there are no visible bolts inside or out just a couple studs sticking thru to the inside.
how the hell does it come off, Do I need to pull the swivel thing off the outside and acess from there? if so how do I get that off? |

I'm assuming that it's a Mercruiser?,and that you have already removed the out drive as you said you junked it.
It seems that you need to remove the gimball housing, transom assembly. It's not to difficult, but you need to remove the y pipe and steering cable and a few other parts to access the bolts that hold the inner and outer transom assemblys to the transom. You will need a 12 point socket to remove the bolts that hold the y pipe. I removed the unit from two boats, and it's not really difficult, but it is a pia. Here's a few you tube videos that may help you.You may want to fast fwd past the first guys rant about Sears not having anyone who knows anything about tools. http://youtu.be/NGqnIlpxmJs http://youtu.be/86hLR013enw |
Guys thanks. The heads on the bolts had rotted so much i couldnt see them. Its off now and now time to pull the boat apart
