Red Seacrafts
 

I am about to have my 1974 23 SF painted. It is red, faded and chalky. I want to match the original red as closely as possible. My fiberglass guy uses Imron. Does anyone know which red is closest?

Not sure which Imron color is the right one,but My 23 Tsunami was in the original Seacraft red,and I decided to keep it the same color when I restored it.
I used a two part Urethane from Epifanes.It is a Urethane that is very similar in composition to Imron.
I sprayed it five years ago,and it still looks as good today as it did the day it was done.
They have two reds,I used #845 which is very close to the original Seacraft red gelcoat.

Epifanes Is very well known for their varnishes,but the two part urethane is an incredibly nice paint,and of all the two part uretahanes, it's closest to Imron in it's chemical makeup.I'm glad I went with it.
Five years now and the finish is still beautiful,and pretty much bullet proof.It was my second spray job,but even with my rookie skills I was able to get great results.I hit the dock with the boat last year and took a big gouge out of the stern corner.I had to do some fairing to the glass and sanding.
I used a foam brush with the Epifanes to touch up the repair,and you can hardly tell it was done.


I don't mean to sound like an advertisement for them, I just figured that although they are highly rated for their varnishes,it would be good to let others know how nice their urethane is.I would use it again in a hearbeat.
