Fuel tank prices

Getting some quotes on a new fuel for the boat. 117" long. Wide enough to fit between the stringers. I got a price of over 2k for a new one. Is this high? 3/16 thick aluminum. Anyone have a good reference? Thanks.

Sounds high but for a couple of 3/16 thick a sheets of that in a good marine grade is probably a grand by its self. You might find someone cheaper but it probably won't be a hole lot less. I haven't bought any aluminum sheeting lately but sure it hasn't gone down in price.

I guess he right on then. He said it would take 2 sheets. This boat consumes ALOT of $$$$!!
It will hold 165 gallons of fuel though.

2 4'x8' sheets of 3/16" should be about 170 lbs. Tanks are usually 5052--H32 alloy. This is perhaps the most common sheet metal forming alloy. Spot price was $0.82/lb earlier this month. If you pay much more than $3.00 a lb retail it isn't a great deal. Plus tank labor. So $500 in aluminum, plus cut, weld, machining for fittings, testing, overhead and liability.

To me $2,000 seems high. Not crazy, but not cheap. The price for three 56 gallon polyethylene tanks is between $1600 and $2000. Usually aluminum tanks are cheaper. But they corrode.

When I was looking around I found places that said to expect roughly $10 per gallon of tank volume. I got a 70 gallon for $750 from a reputable fuel tank builder. They steered me toward 3/16" also though the original 50 gallon was 1/8".

I'm in the process of buying one from Sunshine marine about 120 gallons, for my 23 it's 100"s or so it's about $900 waiting On final quote. It's 1/8" aluminum. They came highly recommended and make tanks for a lot of high end boats.

Id get the 3/16 thick tank from Sunshine. Its whats in my boat. I got a 125 gallon for about $1200

Materials and the cost of doing business have gone up. I'm very satisfied with mine from Sunshine and would do it again. My 118 gal, 3/16", 5052 was $858 plus shipping in March 2011 with (1) fill tube 1.5" OD, (1) vent tube 5/8" OD, (1) pick up tube 3/8"
NPT coupling,
(1) Wema sender, (4) interior baffles, (6) mounting brackets

Did you consider two smaller tanks I have one 100gl and one 30 I installed in my 23 cc my thoughts were to have the 30 as a reserve
