Painted On Boot Stripe

The boot stripe on my 2001 SC 21 is getting kind of beat up after 13 years. I have to replace it or have one painted on. Anyone here have a painted on stripe? Worth it? Thanks!

They hold up good but take lots of time to do it right. Lots of taping. You are going to want to go to a automotive paint supply store and get some good tape. I have used both Awlgrip and pettit boot stripe paint with good results.

Yup. I've painted all of my boot stripes. Looks much better than the vinyl kits you can buy for the same purpose.

I recommend using a single part paint for the stripe despite my strong preference for AwlGrip in the hull. Easier to apply; easier to repair.

not sure why you would bother - West marine has a nice selection on tape - multi color and such and it lasts years - I used a 3 color black to gray that fits my color scheme

I like the look of the painted on boot stripe but I like messing around with different schemes every couple years so I pick up rolls at greatlakessipper.com enough to do every boat on this site lol! They have some cool colors.
I probably will end up painting after I really know what I want, I'm very happy with the boot size and color I have now but it does need to be redone as it got a bit dinged up somehow.
