1977 MA 20 Rebuild
 

Good afternoon guys. I have been following this site ever since my dad and I got into rebuilding a 20 MA we found this fall on craigslist. Since the fall when we got her we gutted the inside and started fresh. To start we rebuilt the transom and raised the floor 4 inches and reworked the rear transom and replaced all the wiring, fuel tank and rigging! Pumps and etc. We have about 3 months of labor into it so far on and off and have been learning as we go with some things. Luckily we have had it in a heated shop for the winter so working on it has been easy. I wanted to share some photos of the rebuild with everyone here.

The next big step for us is setting the bracket and finding a suzuki 140 to paint white and throw on the back of her. I am really looking forward to seeing the final result as I am sure this boat is going to be a head turner.

Here we fiberglassed 2x4 to raise the floor up the desired 4". We ended up using a router to take the sharp edge off the 2x4 before we glassed it. For the transom we ended up with two layers of 3/4 okoume glassed together

Next we finished the rigging of the pumps and salt water wash down and got ready to re install the floor using Coosa board

Then came the floor and a lot of fairing compound !

We then went to work on the gunnels and reworking the transom. We really liked the radius look on the transom. On the gunnels we sanded everything down and used fairing compound to get rid of the rough carpet look and give the boats finished look.

So after two and a half months of non stop sanding and cleaning and fairing we finally got the boat sanded and ready for paint this past week. We decided to go with Imron over awlgrip given our past experiences and also given our experience spraying Imron vs never spraying awlgrip. We are beyond happy with how well it came out.
