What do you do after spending 5 years building a Seacraft is over...
Learn a new trade...LOL I picked up this "Classic" but in very excellent shape Rex commercial sewing machine (made by Nakajima) So now I will learn how to do cushions and covers...I should be open for business in about 5 years...LOL:D:D Attachment 7171 |
Glad to know I'm not the only dude with a sewing machine! Whew!
|
5 years may be a little early for me - I am just hoping to finish my boat in time to need upholstery before you retire AGAIN. ;)

Is there nothing the man can not do!

At a very early age in my life my mother took the time to
teach me how to cook and sew...:) I still use these talents to this day... Now that my parents have moved in with Patti and I two months ago, the sewing machine has been non stop! She loves to sew and has her whole life... Having a commercial machine at Area 442 will come in handy for canvas and upholstery .... ;) Does anyone need a prom dress? |
I forgot to put my order in while I was there!

...and I thought I was the only one. I've got my mom's Pfaff. From the 50's!
I used it to sew some Halloween costumes for the kids. They are 35, 29 and 23 now. I had been thinking about tearing down the old canvas and using them as patterns for new ones. |
I wonder as well what to do now that the boat is done,I'd love to do another resto, but after a few disc replacment surgeries and the fact that I'm an old goat,I don't think I could physically handle it.
I think the sewing machine is a great idea,it's nice and clean,no itchy dust,no noise,no tyvek suits. Be careful though,It could lead to more business than you'd expect. Just think of all the SeaCrafters you could make happy with some nice custom covers, and canvas work. After seeing the beautiful job you did on the 21,I'd think your sewing skills would be equally nice. 25 years ago, A buddy of mine who was a fireman(now retired) bought a sewing machine just to make a top for his boat. Then he made one for a friend, and another and another for more friends. He ended up getting good at it,and it turned into a very lucrative business. Now he's retired from the fire department and doing canvas work at his pace. He takes the jobs he likes, and he can do the work at a much more reasonable cost than the big canvas shops. The rest of the time he uses to take his grand children fishing. |
Open for Business...LOL
