Lake Ontario salmon fishing

Drove up to Olcott Ny for some salmon fishing yesterday. Lake as usual was on fire. Started slow, but by 9am was awesome. Plenty of king salmon , coho, and steelheads

We went 16 fish for 26 bites. Couldn't seem to keep hooks in them .Spring kings are full of steam

I'd say your hooks set well enough for making for a good time! Nice job and "Tight Lines."

Nice catch Marlin.
I was up in Olcott at my camp from 5/14 to 5/24.Too bad I didn't know you were up,we could have swapped some fish stories.

As you said,The fishing was to say the least,"spectacular". We had over 20 fish each day, probably some of the best in total of fish in a spring trip.
Sizes were small however in comparisons to the past few years. Our biggest was about 18lbs with lots in the mid teens.I expected the average amount to be in the high teens with several 20lbs or more.

Many days we stopped fishing by 10 or 11am as we had our limits and didn't want to keep fishing,as the survival rate drops on released fish quite a bit.
We had bitter cold weather with (i think it was Fri or Sat.) frost on the boat and water temps as low as 39 degrees.
The picture of the Sub-Troll down temp shows the water temp down at about 30' many days it was only 38 degrees,BRRRR.

Good trip without a doubt. I hated to come home, but after 9 days of getting up at 4:30 am,and the workout these spring kings give you,I was looking forward to some rest.
It's hard to explain how incredibly strong these fish are in the spring, trying to keep them from running across all the other lines,is not an easy task.
It is a hell of a lot of fun though. WE also had some fun with the goofy face protectors that our buddy gave us.

Nice guys! I fancy myself as a pretty good fish producer down here in the salty south but what you guys do is a totally different world! Maybe we should work out some trip swaps some year. Anything that involves filling a cooler with fish interests me....

any time Moose,
I'll be there most of the season in 2016.I always thought some kind of trade a trip would be a good idea.Working out the logistics might be a bit tough though.
I'm sure many northern guys would love to enjoy some warmth for a few days in the winter, and the southern guys would like to escape the heat of summer.
The biggest problem is the weather,I've had trips when we got blown off for five or more days in a row,but I guess that's just part of fishing.

If anyone is interested in doing some good salmon fishing on the great lakes(Lk.Ontario)shoot me a message.I may just be up there at that time.

Yup,most likely it was me.
I constantly have people tell me "Boy! we can see that red boat a long long way off".
Also had some tell me they thought it was either the Canadian or us Coast Guard when seen far off.
I'll let you know when we are going back up again.

And that was one of the warmer temps. We had lots of temps from 38 to 39 degrees down 25 to 30 feet. The warmest surface temps for us were in the high 40's
As for Moose getting in that water,he could always fill his suit with a bunch of those hand warmer packages that you shake to activate.:D
