Fender repaint-what went wrong
 

I sanded the rust down smooth, but all the rust wasn't removed. I wiped the entire fender with Ospho. 4 coats of Rustoleum cold galvanizing compound. 2 coats of Kilz latex primer. 6 coats of Rustoleum latex semi gloss. Fenders dried 4 days before handling. I nicked a fender putting them back on. paint is pealing off. I can see the wipe marks of the Ospho once the paint peals off. The cold galvanizing compound, primer & paint all bonded well. I can't seperate the layers. Where did I goof up?

Hard to get paint to stick to galvanized, especially the can spry paint. We painted a trailer one time that was galvanized and treated the surface with vinegar to neutralize it. There are products out there to aid in this too. You best bet to get paint to stick is to treat it then use a 2 part epoxy over it. The rustolum will not last even if it sticks. the rust will still come threw or it will rust under it and flake back off. Im with don v, better off to just get new ones. I got a new galvanized pair off Craig's list for $40 not long ago new in the wrapper. Not much more if you order off line.
