Choosing a two tone deck color pattern.
I'm finishing up my painting and the deck is the last part.
Rather then all oyster white I'm thinking if stepping it up a bit and going two tone as in the attached pic. Has anyone done this. Which color from the awlgrip chart would give me good contrast. I know it's 5x more work. Any pix of your personal project would be of great help. |

I just completed my deck with that layout and used 3 parts snow white imron to 1 part black imron and made a nice color gray non skid that we sprayed. It's a lot of prep work to do the stripes but end result is unreal. Pics don't do it any justice.. Look at my pics under album # 3.. It took two us 5 1/2 hours to layout the stripes and another 8 of sanding in between the tape for the gray.
Good luck!! |
Just remember...any color other than white will be HOT! So imho I would stay with a very light color, just enough to show, but not so much that you will be wearing shoes all the time.

I went with a lighter grey and it don't get too warm. It is not as cool as the white but not near as bad as I thought it may be. I wouldn't go any darker tho.

My deck is grey and not broken up. It does get warm but not bad. Yours looks awesome! Keep up the great work.

I used KiwiGrip on mine. Very easy to apply (...aside from taping off pattern) - lay down your final finish coat, tape your pattern with 3M fine line, scuff application areas with a scotch brite pad, wipe clean, spread with a soft trowel and roll it out. It cleans well, texture can be dialed in to your liking and it has held up great after one season. It's water based and can be tinted with pretty much any pigment from what I understand. I bought the plain white, took it to Home Depot and had them match it to a Behr color, I believe it was called Oyster. To get an idea of contrast, my topsides paint is Interlux Perfection Oyster White. Best of luck with your project - post some pics.
