those motors have a terrible reputation - they're the motors the ruined OMC

Running pair with controls has to be with 4-5k. Are you looking at the silver hawk by chance?

In 1999, while having my 79 MA transom rebuilt (and NOT advised to raise to a 25 inch), I agreed to order a 99 white Evinrude Ficht 175. Before ordering, mechanic called and advised a gray Johnson carbed 175. Yes that was excellent advice.

However, if neither engine has had a catastrophic failure to date, I'd offer the value of the boat and trailer, and run them til they do fail.?.

I still have not finished reading the owners post on THT regarding twin 2006 Etecs blowing within minutes of each other at 1200+ hours. Just sayin.

What's a 1999 carbed Johnson 175 with 162 original hours, always stored indoors, worth? Haha.

Best of luck with your purchase.

2001 were BRP. Heads were redesigned and they are still in one piece.
Parts a a lil hard to find and spendy. Few folks will work on them.

I would run them without hesitation until they blow.

They are worth a bunch in parts, but nothing whole if that makes sense.

gfs is right, may be worth more as parts if you had the time to do the ebay thing

Problem is with the brain getting hot. Keep the cooling system and warning system in top notch shape and run the crap out of them.

emm's get hot - due to cooling tubes being plugged.that's one of MANY problems...I treat those motors like kryptonite...
