Rotation direction ?

My lower unit needs to be replaced/repaired due to a bent shaft. I call my guy for advice and the price comparison is close. I get a three year warranty ordering(aftermarket) through ebay and I'd do the install, he says know what rotation you need and he could tell by just looking at it. The boat has twins and its the port side OB. My question is what should I be looking for to find the rotation direction? Do I need to drop the lower unit to find out? The motors do not have a power source for the winter.

port motor - it should be a standard rotation - left hand

look at prop - which way does it move forward ? that will tell you rotation...

you can tell by by the prop if its a left or righthand

Thanks. Common sense is that common :D. Wish the guy had just come out and said that.

Uhh, No. a standard rotation is RIGHT hand rotation.

The port (left) motor should have Left hand rotation, aka "counter rotation". As you look forward from the rear, the left propeller should appear to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction to travel forward. The tops of the propeller should rotate away from the center line of the boat when the engine is running in gear.

port side - prop rotates left
stbd side - prop rotates right

my mistake - left is counter rotation...

see what happens when you retire - in four months, ive made my first mistake on something so simple...
