Seafari Motor Question
 

Question, If I were to buy MaxFlorida's 20' Seafari which has a 20 inch transom, I was searching for used motors and I found a nice 2001 Yamaha 115 2-Stroke. What do you guys think as far as weight and HP for this boat?

It would be perfect and you'll proably get 2.5 MPG. A new fourstroke for a mere $7500 more would get 3.5 - 4 mpg., but you would need to run 3500 miles before you broke even on the fuel. St Marks is a good place to start the Great Circle Route from. Tommy-Lee, if you ran that loop you would just make up the fuel burn difference. Bolt it on and let her eat, but you'll need to hunt for a new motor about 2022. It's an OX-66 with a 66% shorter crank - use good fuel and keep the carbs clean. You'll be happy.

I really am not a 4 stroke fan, and yeah I am a state employee and do not have tons of money, so I have to also be conservative in my spending. I know we talked about the 90 HP being plenty of horsepower for this setup, but I found a good deal on a 2001 Yamaha 115 for 2k dollars with low hours. So If its a good setup then sounds like I could buy MaxFlorida's boat and this motor and be gtg for 5500.00 dollars!

How much for the 115 2 stroke?

The reason I ask is I just sold my pair of 2001 115 four stroke Suzuki's for $2400 a piece.

Tom, I don't know what the Yamaha weighs, but should be a good match for the hull. I ran mine for 31 years with a 300 lb 1975 Evinrude 115 that probably wasn't much more than 100 hp at the prop, (they were rated at powerhead back then). It was plenty of power, especially when it got rough. I averaged 2.8 mpg for ~ 2000 miles over 6 trips to the Abaco's. With that light motor it was very well balanced, so it rode very well and would plane at ~12 mph. I ran a 13 3/4 X 15" prop and cruised at 4500 rpm and about 20 kts. Denny

Those are GREAT motors and plenty of power for the seafari.

My 79 seafari has a 175 and honestly a 115 will be enough power, but I do enjoy being able to get up and go.

360 lb and $2000 at 115 hp sounds perfect as long as the shaft length is right.
