just installed 300 Suzuki on bracketed 23 cc I have to run port tab down to keep boat level , never had this issue with any other non seacraft boat ive owned, am I missing something or is it the norm

What type of bracket?

Have you tried adjusting tab on motor.

Who mounted the bracket and the engine? is there a hook in the hull on one side? if the boat was "redone" or sat on a roller trailer full of water that would be my guess.

There was a rumor that one of the molds floating around during the mid 80's was tweaked (i.e. tracker built). Tracker supposedly laid up some brand new hulls with factory hooks on one side ;) If your hull is from that time period or was "rebuilt" at any point you might get under it with a straight edge and look around.

When Potter went bankrupt and was bought out by SeaCraft Industries, he supposedly told them that there was one 23 mold that had a hook in it and told them not to use it. It evidently was used however because I once looked at a later model 23 Sceptre (don't remember if it was made by Seacraft Industries or Tracker) for a Forum member and it definitely had a hook in the center panel. Port side was the worst but stbd side had the same problem to a lesser degree.

hung bracket myself , it is a custom aluminium bracket I purchased seems very well built the engine was installed by international marine in south florida, the installer said the engine torque was the reason for having to run tab on port side lower, will try moving tab on motor, and will check for hook. thanks to all for info

Am l worng,but would you not need right tab to counter torgue from std. engine rotation?

I have a similar set up, new 300 zuke on Hermco bracket. I'm still breaking it in but have felt like the hydraulic steering is tight to one side. Did a little research and I will be adjusting the torque tab/ trim tab on the next run to see if it makes a difference. Might be worth a try. What hole did they mount your motor at?

The hole location is not relevant! What counts is how high the AV plate is relative to bottom of boat, and that's affected by where the bracket is mounted AND where the motor mount holes were drilled! Put a straight edge against bottom of hull, trim motor so AV plate is parallel to straight edge, and measure distance to bottom of AV plate to straight edge. My experience is that motor height should be increased 2" for every foot of setback. The old rule of thumb of 1" per foot of setback appears to be totally bogus!

You want the AV plate to be above solid water when you're up on plane and fully trimmed out. How high motor can run is also dependent on prop design, as some props with lots of cup can run higher than those with no or less cup.
