Just seeing if I'm able to do so. FYI, this was a few years ago, 35 miles out of Oregon Inlet. Me and my pal caught 13 mahi that day. We were the only boat out there...used 27 gallons of petrol in 8 hrs.

35 miles out in an 18? I've done it in my brothers. Nice days and nice memories. A lot of beers. And a lot of fun.

Part II

Given the conditions, couldn't pass up on the opportunity!

I kind of would like to have my 18 back. Would routinely go 20-25 nm offshore with it years ago. I remember listening to a radio conversation about my "tiny" boat so far out. They were talking about what I would do if the seas pick up. I told them I would take it easy and make my way back in. Yes, the 18 is a blue water boat. It would get a little bit bigger when under power.

Nothing like being that far away from land in a skiff!

We used to go out 60 plus miles in my old bosses sea pro with a single 150 two banger. It was a new boat with a new motor but still a hell of a trip when a storm would blow up. We got stuck briefly in 8-10 50 miles out and it was 6-8 coming in. Fairly far spaced but still a wet day in that wet riding sea pro. Took us 4-5 hours to get in doing 6-8 knots. When I got home I could lay my shirt up against the wall once it dried and it would stand straight up from all the salt where it hardened. That was my last trip out with him, well till he got his 23' anyhow.
