Outboard choices for a 23'SF
 
Im putting a hermco twin bracket on my 23 and I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on outboard choices for this set up. Im a big Etec and Yamaha fan. Any help would greatly appreciated.

If you are not racing, want twins and are running way offshore think about a pair of 25" 90 E-tec's. If you get McGillicutty or Ken Reeves (Prop Gods in Sarasota) to match your wheels, I think they can get you 35 mph and the little "John Deere" 90 E-techs will not burn more than 20 gallons a day each. The 90's are not available in counter-rotating, but with hydraulic steering that has become much less of an issue. Seems weird but you would have two 13-3/4" diameter disks shoving you forward rather than one 19" diameter disk - more surface, less "high" speed with two bullets in the water but more "digging" in the direction they are pointed. The three year service interval helps with the cost of operating twins. My 2 Cents.

I'd check out the new G2 E-TEC, anything from a 200 HO to a 300 would work and will beat any 4-stroke on BOTH on both mid-range torque AND fuel burn! Check out these performance bulletins. Not cheap but the digital throttle & shift, integral power steering, and auto trim are pretty slick.

On the 4-strokes, I think Suzuki has done their homework better than all the others with a chain drive on the camshafts instead of belts, and offset driveshaft/greater gear reduction, allowing them to run a a bigger, slower turning, more efficient prop. Plus it sounds like Suzuki is trying to buy market share with the prices some of the dealers are quoting!

2nd that. Under commercial use I get a ton of hours out of them with easy maintenance and little down time.

Cool, Ive been looking at the 250 etec, not the g2...seems to have proven itself...but Im def considering the g2....guess it comes down to $$$

Same here, 11 years of awesome performance with a df 250 and now the 300. The 300 is a jet engine on the 23s and get's excellent cruise #s. That and it can be had installed for just over $18k including prop, flyby wire controls and upgraded Simrad gauge. There is no bad choice in any of them just how much you want to pay for one over the other.
