Can anyone tell me about this motor? Owner described it as a 1998 Mercury 225 - model no longer sold in the US. Didn't know where to look for nor saw the serial number. Appeared to be fuel injected. Had two rails at the end of the cylinder banks which were pressurized. Sorry, not that familiar with Merc or non-carbed engines. Have more pics if needed. Is this a fuel injected OptiMax? Thanks

Yes Optimax. Great motors although early on they had some problems in some HPs.

Direct injection was the revolution that saved the 2 stroke. Numerous technologies available to directily inject the required amount of fuel/oil to cylinders for maximum burn and efficiency. Very efficient and environmentally friendly.

OMC had the problematic FICHT collaboration, leading Evinrude/BRP to rework the FICHT into the Etec; Merc's Optimax, Tohatsu's TLDI and Yammie's HPDI are all variants of the tech. They all do the fuel injection it a little differently.

Thanks for the info. This motah was mounted on a 23'Tracker/SeaCraft walkaround. What kind of fuel burn could you expect with this rig?

I have the 225 EFI, 2003, and if everything is just perfect the best I see at 4000 rpms is 13 gal/hr. Loaded more like 14.5. Remember the Opti is more efficient than the EFI.
