fuel pick up position
 

I had been helping a friend trying to get his old (original) fuel tank out of his 84 Mako. He was finally able to get it out with the use of a forklift. He said the boat lifted a couple of inches off the trailer before the tank popped out.
He stopped by today with his new tank and I noticed that the pick ups (2) were where the originals were located, near the front. When I had my tank made, many years ago, I had the pick ups located near the stern. I really don't remember where they were on the old tank, but it seems to me that it would make sense to put them further back. Thoughts?

You are right Ron. The Mako 23's (232's) run fairly "bow high" so there might be a bunch of fuel behind and below the pick ups when underway. Does the boat have twins or is the second pick up for "dipping" the tank? If it is a dipping pick up it needs to be in the back for sure, so he can jack the boat up and pump any water of goop out.

when you see pick ups like that - it's usually an "internal" pickup

pick up is installed/tacked to bottom of tank - in the rear of the tank.

The boat is a 254 I think. It used to have twins and now has a single 300 hpdi that will throw you out of the boat if your not holding on. He just had them put two pick up tubes in the way it was. Two grounding points and two lifting rings, although he dose not plan on ever taking the tank out again.
