Picked this old gal up recently. (yes the name and colors will be redone exact :) No idea how this trailer made it 120 miles home but i shoulda bought a lotto ticket

She will be a knock around put up wet sandbar hopper, inlet/bridge fisher, booz cruz, tow to the islands boat. Simple and no frills, notched transom, small splashwell, flat deck with giant coffin/18'er console, natural livewell in deck behind console, and a built in freshwater tank in front of fuel tank. Power will be small block v6 ETEC...

Just a few questions so im not reinventing the wheel...

- fuel tank CoG? Will be doing something around 50 gal and 5ft long or so. Instincts say dead center of boats CoG..

-Deck raise height? (only thinking about raising stringers 1.5", deck will be 1" honeycomb.) Dont think i need much according to this old waterline...

Notch height? Read 26 somewhere. She will be pretty light!

Transom was already done in coosa and epoxy(lots of it). Not pretty but its solid so...
Gonna reinforce the stringers in their current form, and run a keel stiffener/drain first off before the real fun begins...

Minor Sunday setback, called transom. As soon as i saw this boat i knew her ass looked a lil flat. I attributed it to an optical illusion form the globs of glue hanging off the back. Cleaned that up and looked even flatter, so made a pattern real quick and checked against my friends 20, not even close haha

Im thinking the kid i bought her from had the keel blocked up and no cap on when he did this... Gna take some numbers off my friends 20 and get her back into form.

I could tell the kid used alot of material, but nothing like this...

Ive never seen so much cobbled together s..t in my life! Its like he ran 1/4" of epoxy between every layer of glass he did. Bright side is her ass will be probably 75# lighter, and i can add a lil crown to the transom like all the ones i do.

Got smart and tried a chisel. Coulda popped the whole thing off in one piece if it wasnt for the 2" lip of original outside skin on the hullsides. It appears a grinder was not present for prep class that day

This piece weighed 7#

Pisser this core weighs so much and has a bow locked in. 4 layers of very oversaturated 1708 on each side...

Back to where we started (with the right shape!)... All the help i can get these days are some logs (helped pull the hull back into shape)

nice stuff ,great job on it.keep it posted

dirtwheelsfl 03-29-2017 09:48 PM

Nice base to work off now! Stringers got a 24oz biax and the rest of the hull up to a few inches above chine got a 17oz. Overlaps where stringers meet the hull and an extra strip down the keel. Stringer cutouts got an extra layer too after foaming...

I'm thinking this is gonna be a VERY nice build...

FAS 03-30-2017 06:46 AM

is the transom all PVC, between the inner and outer? half inch?interesting

dirtwheelsfl 03-30-2017 09:54 PM

nice n quick hopefully!

Yes pvc board is the generic i call it... Corelite, Celtec, theres a few different "companies". My supplier only had 1/2", didnt wanna wait on 3/4. Its a 20# density i believe. 4 layers of 17oz on each side. Last inside layer incorporates 12" tabs and then 3 more 17oz tabs over that. Outer skin will get a 5th that wraps the hullsides and bottom a few inches...

Stringer raising time now!

dirtwheelsfl 04-30-2017 09:15 PM

Stringers done in corecell and divinycell cutoffs. 2" raise, planed down the outboard ones a bit for some crown... Bulkhead time now!
