This little guy stayed close by 24 miles out, then rode back to the river with us and flew away.

We have had so many weird looking birds land on the commercial boat 100+ offshore and ride it in or get rested and fly off. We once nursed some type of swallow back to health over a couple of days and when it took off a Frigate bird swooped in and ate him mid flight.

We had a woodpecker land on the boat 30 miles off shore. Stayed with us for about an hour

Sometimes the best intentions..Now the rest of the story. While running in the river at about 30, into a 20 mph headwind, he decided to jump ship (guess he smelled hard ground). He made it up about 10 feet in the air and headed directly toward an island. It looked like he lost altitude and may have fallen a little short in shallow water. Maybe he stayed afloat long enough to drift ashore.
