77 MA Transom replacement

1 Attachment(s)
Gonna start on replacing the transom on my 77 Master Angler next week. Any tips or tricks I need to know before I start? I have some fiberglass experience and I am also a home builder and carpenter so I understand the structural aspects of the project. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You replacing from the outside or the inside ? - raising it ?

I plan on going from the outside. Unfortunately I have to stay with the 20" outboard for now with a new to me outboard. I'd really like to repower with a new outboard, closed transom, and a bracket but right now that's not an option.

Bay manufacturing may make a 5" extension for your engine. I would go that route and raise the transom.

Seriously consider raising the transom 5". The 20' Seacraft cc's aren't really good candidates for brackets as it throws the cg too far back. You can either extend your lower as suggested or put on a jack plate and drop the motor to the correct height. I did my 20' sf from the outside and it came out really well. Be sure to save the HIN.

I went with a Bay 5" extension on my '98, 25", 225 Johnson raised my transoms to 31" and it worked out perfect. I think the 5" extension was round $700 and change with a year warranty Well worth it.

not to hijack but how do you drop a motor with a jackplate? I have a 20" shaft and would love to raise my transom but they dont make a 5" extension for my motor. pic please.

Finally got the skin cut off this evening, the old ply is rotten in places but it's all soaking wet. Hope to get the rest out and putting back over the weekend. It got too dark for pics so I'll try to post some up tomorrow.
