Trying to become a classic owner

Been on the hunt for a classic Mako or Seacraft for some time. Have really pushed myself toward a 23 seacraft center console I can bracket and repower. However, I am having a hard time judging what make s a good starter boat.

I am very mechanical by nature and enjoy the process of rebuilding all things: cars, houses, machinery etc.

I am looking for some guidance on searching out a 23 center console and what I need or dont want. I will be repowering and adding a bracket. Would prefer not to replace decks, but you do what you have to do. Fuel tank change is fine. Really need provisions for a portable head under the center console for my kids..buckets are such a drag Dad!

I really have no clue what I am going to pay for such a starter. I am not looking to steal anything, but if I am redoing it, why pay for something.

Thanks in advance!

Hi. Best wishes on your search. Since you mentioned a bracket I suggest you search for Bushwacker's posts on brackets where he candidly mentions the pros & cons. He also discusses effects of heavy four strokes. You might look look at my post on estimating cg shift with heavy engines. There are a lot of SeaCrafts with brackets snd some with four strokes. Since you are still looking, something to include in your consideration. Happy hunting!
