1979 23' Questions regarding repower
 

Good Day Gentleman...

I have questions concerning weight on the back of a stock open transom potter repower.

Considering a f300 weighing in at 570lbs. What can I expect the scuppers to perform like. Its it going to be a constant water in the cockpit? Batteries are in console and 100 gallon newer fuel tank in original position. Stock console in same position. I will not be using the livewell in transom. Changing leaning post out to a baitwell / leaning post.

I have a '75 23SF with an Etec 300 on the transom. With two people at the transom, a full tank, and a full 40 gallon leaning post livewell it is wet feet. Etec goes 525 lbs.

Move the scuppers.

My Sceptre does the same flooding with a 300 Suzuki. I thought about moving the scuppers and even raising the floor. My better half's logic taught me the drains are a perfect size for plugs! I use the screw to tighten ones and they fit perfect. If spray or cooler draining fills the area up a bit the plugs come right out and drains the area. Saves a lot of wet feet while fishing in the stern and cost ten bucks!!! We put them in before we drop the lift and are dry all day!

Sometimes the easiest solution is the best solution. I experienced the same with my 20 MA with the 2 drains on either side . Bought 2 plugs and no more water. The prior owner opened 2 drains in the channel in the back in front of the splashwell I guess to drain water directly into the bilge which will be glassed over to original

I'm in the final stages of my restoration on my 1974 23 SF CC. I raised the transom to 30" and cut the splash well back by 12", removed the transom live well.. Raised the floor off the stringers 3" and moved scuppers out the transom.. I have a F300 Yamaha on the new transom with a 120 new fuel tank and batteries moved under the console.. My feet should stay dry..

Considering finishing my hull or purchasing a 21' Fitz that is turn key.
From my understanding the 21' Fitz and 23' potter are similar in size.
The Fitz has 20 degrees in stern however it's not stepped. I can always finish
The potter later. However, I can purchase a 2013 f300 xca with 500 hrs
And a year warranty for 10,500.

Lots to consider

Yep! I do the same thing. No wet feet. Get up on a plane and it drains super fast. Actually in my case the deck will drain at rest, as long as nobody or several people are standing in the back of the boat.
