Bracket/motor height
 

Hi guys. Just completed a closed transom with a 25" Hermco bracket. I mounted the bracket per Hermco 21" up from the bottom. I can only get 4" from the bottom to the cav plate at the highest setting. Just wondering if I did something wrong where some other guys can get it higher on a lower hole setting. Did they put the bracket higher. Also would the location of my trim tabs effect anything. I got 41 out of it with a 225 carb Yamaha 5200-5400 wot left hand rotation. Prop is a 17ML. I am considering looking at a stern lifting prob. I have attached a few photos. Any input would be great. I don't have a bracket so I don't have any personal experience on this, however it seems a LOT of people wish they would have installed their bracket higher. That last pic with your boat on plane looks pretty sweet to me!!

I have the same boat and bracket and used Don's instructions he sent. For a single 30" engine it's 26" up to top of swim platform.

You want to mount the bracket as low as possible for maximum flotation. Don installed my bracket and mounting height is perfect, with swim platform about 2" above water. I'd recommend following his instructions to the letter!

Although some 4B props for bass boats are optimized for WOT speed with a lot of bow lift, an offshore-style 4B prop will give you more stern lift and allow lower planing speeds

Yes i followed Dons directions to a T. I have talked to Ken at Prop Gods and he recommended a 4 blade stern lifting prop. I will order that this week.

Your "on Board" guidance system seems to be working perfectly. Occasionally, we get some SCUDs on this site with bad gyros (flawed logic)!

I found a nice twin Armstrong bracket for 500 clams but I will have to section it and narrow
it 4 inches per side. I was also thinking of adding 2 inches to the bottom of the tub
and mounting it 2 inches higher. Still good for diving, but it`ll give me more height
for the props.

Not sure on your Lenco tabs ???
Bennett recommends as far outboard as possible !

They will be working like a teeter totter the way they are now..:eek:

He was freaking out when I took the hole saw to his 3K bracket..:D

Also Jr. hit 48 MPH with the Merc 250HP with this setup..
He has since upgraded with the 300HP Zuke...
He is well over 50 MPH now !!

The twin bracket is a whole different animal than the 25" single the OP has. Mounting is much lower. I have the twin single 30" and went up an extra inch over Don's recommendations so I could clear my raised deck. It is all working beyond expectations.

I agree, TJS's tab placement is way too inboard. As much as a pain it would be I would move them out.

Thanks guys. I was scared to cut the bracket for the tabs but after running the boat I think they would be better on the outer edge. I will have to man up and make the cut this winter.
