12v power socket help requested

Hello, all:

I purchased a 12V power socket

this one:

And installed it in my dash. It powers my handheld spotlight just fine, but it will not work with any USB plug in adapters I have - and so far I tried 8 different models! Anyone know what's up with this and have suggestions for a model that is sure to work with the USB adapters? I wanted to get a USB adapter with a voltage readout, but two of them it tried do not work, and a bunch of other models even with indicator lights do not work.

I have two of these on my Sceptre. One in the cabin under the switch panel and one next to my wheel on the dash. They haven't failed me yet (over a year) I am careful to make sure I put the cover on before rinsing. I have a second standard 12 volt next to the one on my dash for my spotlight.

Is it possible that it is hooked up in reverse? The center pin should be 12v. The socket wall is the negative. That would explain why a light that doesn't care about polarity would work but a usb adapter with a circuit board would not.

Ah! I will try to reverse the polarity - I did not think about that!

Great job, Basketcase! Reversed the connections, and voila - USB plug works just as it should! Thanks for the help, and thanks, Eric!

Very good! It was really the only thing that made sense. Glad you got it going!
