Seacraft 20 1978 questions

I just noticed that I have been a lurker since 2013 so please forgive my lack of contribution. I have enjoyed reading nearly everything on the site especially the impressive rebuilds. I am in Sandy Eggo which makes for slim pickings on Classic Seacrafts. I had my sights on a 23 Scepter I/O and lost out on it by 2 days after I lined up my cash.

I am interested in a 20 or 23 and am now looking at a 1978 20 (MA?). The transom was lowered 2" in 1988 to accommodate a short shaft motor. Do you think a 2" transom haircut is bad? Installing a splashwell would seem prudent or are there other drawbacks?

Aside from that what do you think about her?

Well that is definitely a Master Angler. You have what appears to be a factory height 20 inch transom. Any other alterations would more commonly be a rebuilt and raised transom to 25, sometimes 26” transom to accommodate modern outboards. Any lower than a 20”, and you’d have the ever elusive SinCraft. Just measure the mid section of outboard, bet it’s 19-21”. Looks unmolested and in great shape from the pics. Best of Luck! I’ve got a ‘79 MA, trust me, you’ll love it.

That's a nice find. If the price was right I wouldn't wait.

I also live in San Diego and I've been watching that boat and wondering who was going to pick it up. I love the color. In the ad it looks like maybe the transom was done (due to the slight color change). I'd go over the transom pretty carefully. If the deck and the transom seem solid, it sure looks like its a good price. Its been on there a while too so the guy may be open to some negotiations. Good luck.
