New Mercury
I see Mercury has a new V-6 outboard. Me and my nephew are flying down to Miami tomorrow to the boat show and we'll check it out. Looks like a Yamaha competition, big block (sorta), light (plasma cylinder walls?), new cowling design, etc. Where's the 250 hp?

Defiantly got the weight down. Curious to how well they will hold up. If anything like the 150's they will be good outboards. Seems like everybody is doing the custom color deal now which is cool. I am curious about the 250-up hp class. I don't see the v-rods going no where but you never know. Im sure they will be next down the pipe line.

Mercury just hit a line drive home run in the middle of centerfield! The weight and power with a v6. The price is great too. Twins (175s) on a Sceptre?

Yepper, those 4 cylinder 200 hp Yamaha/Zukes versus a V-6? I'd have to look real hard at the Mercury. Mercury had a HUGE display at the Miami show and I must admit those new V-6's looked sweet.
I visited the Mercury display just after I "floated" through the Marine7 display, which was SICK!, and after coming down to Earth Mercury did a top notch job promoting their products!! I'm with Snookerd, these new engines will do well....IF Mercury gets serious with their factory warranty. Hard to beat Evinrude's 10 year. |

Mercury is going to have to be more forthcoming with specifications to sell me on them as a home run at this point. The fact they are touting weights of the 20” model says something. Don’t get me wrong as they all do it but after researching weight graphs on the Merc site they are comparing their lightest model 20” motor against the heaviest contender models. I dislike smoke and mirrors right out of gate. Merc didn’t do that with the L4 150 which would be my overwhelming choice over any brand in that power class. Time will tell but the ball ain’t over the fence yet. |
I agree moose . . . that bugs me to no end. Merc's been doing it for a while too with the "lightest weight" in small print. I would love to see how the new 225 does pushing a 23 :)

Pulled from THT- "25” 175 with DTS would be $13,600 MSRP for the engine. For round numbers: Single engine DTS rigging kit, $1500, wiring harness $200, SS propeller $700, SmartCraft SC1000 tach with junction box $400, so you’re at $16,400 plus labor and tax. A hydraulic steering kit will run you about $1500, power steering kit about $2000."
