Location of Thru-Hull Transducer in 23 IB

Hey all,

Been trying to find the ideal location to place my thru hull this spring, but I don't have much room to work with. For those with 23 inboards, are you guys locating your transducers forward of the shaft log, port or starboard side under the transmission/engine?

I am afraid to locate it any farther forward, in fear that it will be out of water while on a plane.

Anyone have any pictures, or can take some pictures, of where they have mounted their thru hull transducers on a 23 inboard?

I did post a diagram for best transducer installation locations depending on whether it is an inboard or outboard boat. Also a little information about transducers etc.
Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions - marine electronics is my business.

i have a 20 degree b60 mounted on the ports side that pretty much mirrors the location of the raw water pickup on the starboard side. It works great in that location and I have no problem holding bottom while running at cruise speed. Mounting in that location makes it at least theoretically replaceable without pulling the motor but it would be a real bitch of a job to replace.

There really isn't a lot of other places to put it on the inboards... I considered mounting it forward of the raw water pickup but I was too worried that it would interfere with the water flow to the intake.

I know that the b60's lacks a lot of performance compared to what else is out there today but there just is not a lot of available space on the inboards.

Great info thanks guys. Question where is your raw water pickup located? Is it more aft under neath the engine and transmission? I was thinking of putting it on the opposite side of the engine raw water pickup as well.

My livewell thru hull is more forward of the engine, right aft of the battery tray. I think this would be too far forward if I located it on the opposite side?

X2 on deepsushi answer - I installed a 1KW transducer 20 degree a few years ago - put it in the same spot - yes, my intake is in front of the engine aft of the battery compartment. I am at the end of my re-power and with all the pics I have I found one showing the intake and the transducer - hope this helps. Transducer is port side of the bilge pump and intake is starboard - I am trying to edit the pic by zooming in so you can see it. Let’s see if it works. If not I will post it in next post.

Thanks for the pics Kevmen that is extremely helpful, you may have put my worries at ease mounting it that far forward.

Do you experience any issues while running on a plane while using the sonar?

kevmen 03-24-2018 07:26 AM

No issues on mine, on plane I am still printing.

Just as a reference point my transducer is further back.. about even with the the bellhousing.

Right - let me clarify - in the pic I show my strainer to the starboard side - that is actually aft of the thru hull intake - it sits just behind the front part of the engine - it replaced the 600 w transducer that was in there before and was installed while the engine was in. Here is a pic looking down thru the seat on front of the console.
