1970 20 Foot Seacraft

Can some tell me if a 1970 Seacraft originally had the gas tank under the floor? My buddy just bought one and the tank is under the console. Oh and Also, there isn't a HID number on the transom. The previous owner said the coast guard didn't require identification until 1973, is this correct?

I'm thinking the original tank is still in her belly with holes in it! I believe you're correct on the hin. I think I heard someone here say they started in 73.

mine was under the console 40 gal ....My boat had no hull Id number,,when I bought it in 1986 it had a faded thin alum Id plate mounted in the motor well but could not read anything on it,,,the title had a number but did not match any date...My boat was titled as 1970 but had some features of a 69...teakwood hatchcovers, under gunnel rod storage locations....mine was built when Carl and Bill potter were both involved in the company
owned that boat for 30 years , sold it a few years ago

I recently acquired a 1970 and the seemingly original galvanized fuel tank was under the console as well.

My 1972 20SF had the tank under the console originally.
