Trailer for 1968 19' SeaCraft
 
In need of a new trailer and an aluminum has come up locally which is rare for my neck of the woods. It's a LR-AB203600102TB1 single axle version with a capacity of 3600 lbs. and capable of carrying a 20'. Issue is, my 19' has a bracket which I assume will put it out of the the league of this trailer? Tried searching but most manufacturers don't mention whether a bracket makes a difference. Only reason I am even checking it out is because it is local. Ohio is not great for finding aluminum trailers...

As I recall when Bushwacker put a Hermco bracket on his 20’ Seafari with the same ETEC 150 he had to relocate the axle about 11” aft on his single axle trailer to maintain the original tongue weight. Something to consider if it is doable on that trailer.

Thanks Capt.Terry excellent advice. Will check into that. I know that over long distances, tandem may be better from an emergency recovery perspective (flats etc.) but need a nicer trailer for mine to sit on. Just looking at all options.

I’m pretty sure Bushwacker has notes on moving the axle/adjusting tongue weight after adding the bracket and E-Tech. Ever the engineer, is there any doubt Denny had done the math? When I get a chance I will try to find the notes. In the meantime here some photos. I would suggest a transom saver.

Even I never thought of mounting them to my trailer. Don't they scream loudly when you try to do that? Wouldn't it be easier to just leave them behind after they fetched your beer and made you a sandwich?

Bushwacker's Axle Shift Confirmed

It was easier to search this morning on a laptop than on the iPhone. In the attachment to the post I reference is "Bushwacker states his CG moved approximately 11.5” aft with his 427# ETEC 150 HP on a Hermco bracket, based on how much he had to move his trailer axle to maintain tongue weight". In a previous personal email he said it was about a foot.

As for single vs tandem- there are plenty of opinions and good comments on CSC. I changed to a tandem Hitchhiker in 1979 with small wheels to get the boat closer to the ramp so I didn't have to back so far down the slippery ramps at low tide. Yea, there are twice as many bearings, tires, etc. An advantage: I always carry a spare hub and wood blocks. If I have to remove a wheel, I can quickly pull the other up on the blocks, thereby avoiding a jack.
