Optimax in limp mode

Hello and thanks in advance! After replacing the water pump I ran my 2001 135 Optimax @5000 rpm for about 20 minutes last night and went into limp mode after slowing down for a 5 minute idle zone to the boat ramp. Guessing either temp or oil is the culprit, ran perfect all day long prior. Any thoughts?

id go for poppet valve and thermastats. mercury have pretty reliable oil injection. but to be sure make sure ur getting blue smoke on start up and all ur oil lines look good. also the alarm sound usually gives insight of limp mode issue.

Update: after replacing oil tank and poppet valve with no success decided to take it to the pros to get the computer read. Turns out no codes and the motor only has 600 hrs on it!
Culprit is a inline filter behind the oil tank which cools the computer....pic to follow.
