Repowering 23 Seavette conversion and need advice
I am in the process of a Seavette conversion to center console(blasphemy:eek:) and need help regarding repower options. Transom will now either accept a 30” shaft single or twin 25” shafts. My options that I currently have
1) twin yr 2000 carbed 200 Johnson’s 2) single yr 2004 Evinrude 250 DI. 3) use one of the 200s with 5” extension Again, will be hung on the transom NO flotation bracket. Any help appreciated. Pros/cons etc etc. real world experience with twins etc. Thanks -Fred |
My opinion Fred, which does not mean all that much.
1. only if you have lots of moola for gas 2. only if you have lots of moola for a mechanic 3. only if you have half as much moola for gas, see #1 4. If you are into Evinrudes get a 250HO eTec |
Don. No it does matter. Thanks for your input!
I tend to agree with you. Just trying to get several opinions to help in my decision making process or the lack thereof. Thanks again -Fred |
Yeah Fred I've found there is always the one constant in the decision making process.....$$$$$! Good Luck!!

Yes the $$ is the factor. I might just pull the Honda off of my cabin boat and see how it goes for now. I need this Seacraft like a hole in the head.... Oh well it keeps me occupied and more importantly keeps my son off the darned Xbox.

Well after searching and searching and more searching....and taking advice of others, as well as not wanting to use credit, I was finally able to locate a very nice 1999 250 Looper 30” shaft. Should be good enough for my needs. in the near future, pending time and motivation, I will start a rebuild thread (with plenty of questions) for the hull in the proper “modification/repair” section.

I'll be following this thread with interest as I too have a Seavette that I'm considering doing the same thing with. Best of luck with your build!
