Definition of Classic Seacraft?
 

Hey guys,


Just wondering a couple of things about the term Classic Seacraft:

1st: Is a classic Seacraft a hull built between early 1960's and early 1980's and mfg. by Potter?

2nd: Does a classic model name (ie: S.F. 20, S.F. 23 or Seafari) change just because one updates the interior or adds:confused: something such as a transom bracket?

Good questions that I'm sure will be answered shortly. I think I have a while for my 2009 26' to make that status.

Still wondering if a Classic model name changes just because it is updated with any number of new gadgets such as transom bracket, new center console, new seats , bow rails etc.?

Here is my take on it...

If it was born a boy.. It is a boy
If it was born a girl... It is a girl
If it was born gender neutral ... Your guess is as good as mine.. :rolleyes:

A true classic is one that has not been molested if you look at it from a purists stand point...those are getting few and far between... most of us want to upgrade the boats we get correct faults and defects etc...bring them back to life so to speak....

I don't think it's the same as with "classic" cars, where matching numbers, original/period correct wheels, tires, paint, interior, etc., can lead to dramatically higher valuations. I doubt many of us would prefer (or pay a premium for) a boat with 40-50 year old engines, radios, bilge pumps, canvas, etc. IMHO quality repairs, replacements and upgrades increase desirability and value, and don't take away from the classic DNA of the boats. But then that's just my opinion!

I agree with the above far as the statement "What years are considered classics"


But that being said, a slacker can be just as nice if done up well. It is about the DNA, Shoot you can even make the late model hulls nice if you do a full referb on them as well. That don't make them a "classic" but it dose make a nice hull to be proud of. Boats were just built different back then. Hand laid glass, thicker hulls and better fitment. Materials have came a long way also. Give me a boat with todays materials but built with the classic workmanship.
