Hydrofolis for outboard engines

Let's hear the good, bad, and ugly from users here. I have had one on a previous boat years ago and it seemed to help low speed planing, time to plane, porpoising, etc.

I had a ‘77 20cc with a 225 Evinrude on it was terrible to get on plane and once on plane took off like a rocket wasn’t much in between (bought the boat that way)installed the largest hydrofoil I could find at the time and it made a tremendous difference! Wish I could / would have tried a 4 or 5 blade prop on it but that’s hind sight. I put one on my 23’cc with the 300 etec and it helped get more stern lift and then the 4 blade prop completed what I think it needed

I used to have an 85 hp Johnson on my 17' Mako. When I put the 85 on my new 18' Seacraft, it was somewhat slow getting on plane. I put the foil on and it helped a lot . Later, I bought a 120 Evinrude, which had plenty of power, but I put the foil on it. Sort of a poor man's trim tabs.

Had a couple on diff seacraft....aside from ugly they helped increase low planing speed...on my 25 seafari it helped with the boats sensitivity to people moving about. You an always take it off if you don’t like it

I have one on my Seafari - after I installed it I noticed better ride from keeping the bow down more, and slower minimum planing speed.

I did it and am very happy with the results. Lower planing speed, quicker to plane, boat generally rides higher in the stern. Let's say it "enhances" the PT 4 blade. ;)

Hydro-shield is absolutely the best on the market. I've been using them on every deep-v boat I've owned for 20 years. They don't stop working when the anti-ventilation plate is out of the water and also protect the prop against bottom strikes.

Here's one mounted on my Seafari back in 2006. 90 Optimax is the motor.
