Flow-Max Ball Scuppers for SC 20 ?
 

Has any body fitted the Flow-Max Ball Scuppers (Clear) to a SC 20 and do they work ie keep the deck at the back from getting a inch of water in thru the scuppers.
Also are there problems with barnacles growing inside ?

If these are like the ping pong ball scuppers, i recall Capt Chuck saying the ping pong version was annoyingly noisy at anchor or drifting. Others like em.

I had the small ones for years and was happy with the performance. Just bought the large ones because I upsized scuppers with the new transom. Boat self-bails without raising the deck but takes a little water with 180 lbs in the corner. I hear Capt Chuck on the rattle being annoying but like backing down without flushing the deck. Trade off. Let you know in a week or two if the big ones are louder. Probably setup and drill tonight.

Got myself into another Seacraft Rabbit hole - Looking around the internet I came up with 4 back flow check scuppers alternative's to the Timco flapper scuppers I have now, which have never worked well, even with new flappers.

1 - HT Marine Flow-Max Ball Scuppers FMS -1-0-DP.
2 - Rabud scupper ball valve, similar to the HT flow max.
3 - HT Marine Overboard duckbill Scupper.
4 - Gemlix thru hull duckbill scupper.

I like the look of number 3 - the HT Marine Overboard duckbill scupper, simple, inexpensive, looks easy to maintain.

Any comments about the other choices - I am looking for something that definably works better than the existing flapper valves at stopping water coming in the boat.

Also there is the idea of crisscrossing transom scuppers to the opposite side deck drains - ie connecting port scupper with the stbd deck drain and vica versa. The idea being that weight on one side will raise the scupper on the opposite side. Not sure if that makes sense to me ?

Edit - I see some comments that the HT Marine Flow-Max Ball Scuppers FMS -1-0-DP do not work when the scuppers are under water ? - is that true - my scuppers are always under water.

No personal experience here but have heard good reviews about the Rabud brand.

Used the th marine ping pongs and they work fine..never noticed the noise but im half deaf. No experience with the others

We were talking about this issue at Long Point
years ago. Carl and Jeanne were there and the subject of heavier
motors and wet decks came up.

Quick as a lick, Carl said, just cross the scupper hoses.
I thought about it for a minnow, and just started to laugh.
He always had such simplistic beauty in his solutions
to our challenges.

Take a second on the seesaw here and I do mean seesaw.

You have to envision the later scupper design where the water
runs from the liner straight back through short hoses through the
transom scuppers.

Remove the short hoses.
Attach the longer hose to the transom mounted scupper Portside.
Run this hose to the the Starboard side liner barb.

Now think. Have another beer. Think some more.

So, you are standing in the corner Portside whilst wearing a pointy hat.

The scupper is underwater and the water rises in the hose.
The water stops at the height of the ocean and will not rise to the height
of the Starboard transom scupper which is far above the ocean whilst tilted.

I have them and they work, but you raised your deck?

Deck on my 20 scepter is stock height . Flotation bracket and zouks 140 scuppers are above the water about 2 inches ? Ken those Rabuds look the same as the TH marines how do they differ? Better quality?

Sandy I want my deck above the water scuppers straight out the back or side.. I’ll take the time to raise the deck or build flotation bracket if I have to to make the boat safe.
