Bull head configuration and hull crack
2 Attachment(s)
Two questions for the group:
Does anyone have photos of the bulkhead configuration on early 70s inboard 23’? Noticing water pouring through the bulkhead drain on the starboard tank not sure how water would be getting into this space and keeping the bilge running more often than it should . Photos are of the starboard bulkhead drain. Second question, found a hairline crack on the bow, cannot tell when or how it is formed, anyone have any tricks to determine if it’s a gel coat crack or somthing larger. Thanks in advance!! |
If you have the original scuppers, take a very hard look at the stbd one. The brass corrodes through, then the wood block around it rots, then it leaks in...
The port one on my 23 had a slow leak from that sequence and the block was jello. The stbd one had just started to rot. Both are now replaced with fiberglass pipe. If you can get to it, try sprinkling baby powder around the area - makes it easy to see slow leaks. |
I do have a few pick. Ill have to look through my pic to find them.

Fiberglass scuppers

I am suspicious of my scuppers although haven’t been above to confirm a leak even after five days in the water. Pls tell us more about the fiberglass ones including source. Thx |
My scupper drains are made of plastic

Here are the new bulkheads that I’m building. There are two empty spaces under the gas tank on each side of the engine stringer that can trap water.
