SeaCraft 23 (1998)
 

Hi all -

Newbie here. Looking at purchasing a 23Â’ SeaCraft within the coming days. More formal intro to follow.

Had a few quick questions I was hoping someone here might be able to help with specific to the construction of a 98Â’ 23 SeaCraft? Believe Silverking was the builder. The first question I have is there is water between outside stringer and hull. Occuring on both port and starboard sides of hull but a bit more water on the Starboard side. Single engine with rigging running on starboard side as well.

Couple questionsÂ…
1. Wondering if there is a weep hole that would allow water to flow from outside stringer into bilge?
2. Thoughts on how water might have gotten in that area? Rubrail or from underneath the deck somehow passing through to outside of hull? Another hypothesis is the hose to the thru hull is loose and water could be finding its way into that area in that way.
3. If no weep hole, any reason one canÂ’t be put in to help solve for this issue?

Lastly, water seems to collect in live well. Is this common or is it unique to the boat I am looking at?

Mostly classic boats here from the 60's-70"s so I dont know if you will get the replies you are looking for...most of the older hulls had drains placed in the stringers near the transom for just the reason you are here. Water will get everywhere and anywhere in a boat due to what ever so there needs to be drainage to the bilge and out the transom for that reason...not sure about your live well leaky gasket or something else..

2000 23' SF had drains from the outside of stringers to the bilge area, yours could be clogged. Water could have come from bilge surcharge at one time or could be following rigging tube, spray when cleaning bilge etc... In deck live well collects deck water and needs to be pumped out. I was going to install tee inline between the well and the pump and put another valve to free drain water into the bilge when boat was sitting (yes, kind of a pain/design flaw where it will fill to the point of overflow thru rear drain seacock)

My '98 has tubes through the stringers near the transom. It also leaked water in through the rub rail before I sealed that. How much water are you talking about?

Unsure. And haven’t diagnosed if water is coming through rub rail or elsewhere. But appreciate the insight as it may help me figure things out quicker.
