Should I modify my agreed value with GEICO?
In 2017 I insured my 1976 20’ Seafari and 2012 Evinrude ETEC 150 HO with GEICO with an agreed value policy for $12000 and my 1978 Tandem axle Hitchhiker for $500. In the last few years, I have replaced the fuel tank, mechanical steering, replaced all gauges, two new bilge pumps, added Bennett Bolt trim tabs, done a Seacast replacement of the transom, and added a Garmin echomap and Sony blue tooth stereo. The ETEC with only 245 hours on it still looks and performs like new and has only been used in fresh water. With my guessing the hull is worth $4000 and the avg retail of the ETEC is $8645, although I haven’t seen my rates for renewing in June, I am tempted to not tinker with the $12000 agreed value. Comments?

Having being dropped by Gecko for calling them to tell them that the boat was being refurbished and the old motor was sold, IÂ’m thinking no I would keep it like it is. The woman that I talked to informed me that they would not write new policies on a boat that was 40 years old. Having said that, IÂ’m guessing you would be hard pressed to replace your boat for that amount, let alone the sentimental value there.
Don’t know why the pad changed to I’m.

At this point, considering all the refurb you personally have done . I would consider just carrying some liability and maybe engine theft. Full replacement estimate would be hard to calculate even if you have a current survey.

Terry, let's first get this out of the way.....insurance people are just below politicians for scum of the earth!! That being said, if they will continue to insure you for the $12k, NO questions asked, I'd be real quiet, don't make waves and pay it every year. Just sent in my boat insurance payment two days ago, Geico/BoatUS and am hoping they are still happy with me, take my money and insure me for another year!!! I've had the "Dear John" letter from insurance companies for home owners and boat insurance, way more than once, that they loved me for 35 -40 years, but I no longer fall in their policy parameters....so good bye!! When I checked online yesterday on my new policy, GEICO still had agreed value $12000 for about $250/year which is the same as last year. YAH Don- I hear you about insurance companies. I had a ’68 Corvette for 30 years insured for about $15k when it was totaled. I figured it was only a paint job away from being the avg- good retail of $18k. State Farm paid out $11k for a car I bought for $3900. I had a few thousand in parts and lots of my own hours put into maintaining it. On one engine rebuild the only original parts were block, crank and connecting rods- went a bit overboard, but thought I might never do it again and I didn’t, but it sure ran good!

Just for grins I'll take a stab. Same year as your SeaCraft 1976, east coast of Florida because of the wave action. I really don't know poop about Corvette's years, except the split window '63 :)

Don- You were close on the location, north of the Jupiter inlet and south of Blowing Rocks. My first date with Anita was 1-1-70 and she took this photo while we were dating and before we married in Oct '70. Best blind date I ever had. So I put my plan in action; I started inviting her out for nice events like Sebring12 hour, boating in my Larson Volero, a trip to Islamorado with my family. I made my plans about three weeks ahead, so when the other guys called she was booked up, so they stopped calling! I bought the '68 Vette about 3 days before we met after my '65 fast back was hit by a mail truck.

When I read this to my Cindi, she said “told you, you should have put that, looks like the rocks at Jupiter”. She has surfed at points from Miami to Jersey shores. That picture looks familiar to me, but I think I got CRS. lol.
